In The Text Of This (para-quoted) Speech In Vietnam, Has President Bush Abandoned American Principles?

U. S. President George W. Bush (2nd L),
who is attending the Asia-Pacific Economic
Cooperation (APEC) summit, meets Vietnam’s
President Nguyen Minh Triet (2nd R) at the
presidential palace in Hanoi November 17, 2006.
“Much like Iraq, Vietnam has shown that
our former enemy is now our friend. We ultimately
achieved our goal – a stable, capitalist government
that is no threat to the region. These little guys
put up quite a fight, America lost the rice war,
but things have worked out for the best after 40
years. Something like this will ultimately be
achieved in Iraq. Vietnam is a great trading
partner for America, and I believe this will
be true eventually in the Iraq situation. Now
you know my strategy; sometimes we just have
to allow a potentially problematic country to
defeat us in battle, and then wait a few decades
for things to cool off.

I’m not sure what this has to do with Religion and Spirituality. Or why it’s double spaced… you might want to ask this question in another forum.

  2. Odindmar says:

So is he now finally admitting we can’t win and bring the soldiers home why not before many lives were lost? why go there at all? He’s saying we are going to allow them to defeat us in battle that is stupid it makes us look weak to all nations Vietnam kicked our as—s and many many soldiers died and some still suffer from the effects of that battle after decades. Who the hell cares if they are now our friend or are they just sheep in wolves clothing. Where would their loyalty truly lie if push came to shove they have done nothing for the USA even years laterexcept came to our country for a better life and there are alot of vietnamese gangs in the USA. I would never never trust Iraq because we invaded their country and they don’t trust us and though they may someday pretend to who will ever know the truth? Bush has done as he’s done all along ran his own agenda to suit his political needs and now to hell with us all he has no principals to the American people and never has. what I ahte is even when thsi joker is out of office taxpayer money has to continue to pay him for life

    No he didn’t say that

  4. katlady9 says:

He thinks we LET them win?
Ha ha ha ha. We got our behinds kicked in Vietnam.

  5. fiveshif says:

when one has been in war and seen a buddy die or loose a part of his body–he would never say “lets go to war” he would value the blood of a soldier far more then that of a man who was able to stay untouched by that war–thanks to daddy. it doesnt take a LIBERAL mind to see that–it takes a real man or woman to value human life more then our current pres and vice pres do…greed has always found a way to make a war.. Blessed r the peacemakers….AMEN!

  6. IMListen says:

ARE YOU KIDDING? Did he actually say we achieved our goals in Viet Nam? We got run out of there with people clinging to the skids of helicopters on the roof of the embassy. That was not our goal. What a freaking idiot, he embarrasses our country. I saw his news conference but was busy doing something else.

  7. c321arty says:

Think big picture and not in your small little box.
In 50 years, aside from the terrible loss of life, this will mean nothing to the kids in school unless they are stopping 5 times a day to roll out their mats and face Mecca.

  8. Bimpster says:

You have forgotten the ten million innocent people the vietnamese communists cruelly put to death because liberals like you made us leave.
You should be deeply ashamed of yourself.
The same thing will happen in Iraq…and you know it.

  9. Panacea says:

President Bush abandoned American principles a LONG time before making this speech. We’ve never had so antiAmerican a President.
